On the night before Halloween, ECU SCREENS will present a National Theatre Live production of William Shakespeare’s witch-haunted drama Macbeth on Tuesday, October 30th at 7:00 PM in the Raymond J. Estep Multimedia Center of the Bill S. Cole University Center.
Open to the public, tickets cost $10. ECU SCREENS is sponsoring free admission for ECU students.
Shakespeare’s most intense and terrifying tragedy features Rory Kinnear and Anne-Marie Duff in their return to the National Theatre as Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. The drama is set in the ruined aftermath of a bloody civil war, in a ravaged, dystopia where everyone is ruthlessly fighting to survive. Without a setting specific to a time or place, the show explores the damaging physical and psychological effects of political ambition on those who seek power for its own sake.
Kinnear is described as “fantastically playful” and “dangerously funny” by his co-star, Duff. Kinnear himself notes that in this play, Shakespeare is “always seducing the audience to the dark side; it’s the blackest desire within him that summons up the greatest poetry” (The Economist).
Macbeth’s runtime of 2 hours and 30 minutes includes one intermission, during which ECU SCREENS will be providing free ice cream to audience members. Please note this production contains violent scenes. It has been rated "12A" by the British Board of Film Classification and may not be suitbale for small children.
NT Live is the National Theatre's groundbreaking project to broadcast the best of British theatre to cinemas around the world. Following Macbeth, ECU SCREENS will be presenting NT Live’s production of Julius Caesar at 2:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6th.
